valentine’s day // to do & to wear.
Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching and it’s on a Saturday this year, which is actually pretty darn cool and opens up a wider range of possibilities for the day. And while I’m not going to bombard you with a gift guide (there are plenty of those out there already!), I do want to chat a bit about some things you can do and wear to celebrate the day of love.
First up, your typical date night. Think going out to dinner, wearing a pretty dress and splitting a nice bottle of wine with your significant other. Tip: if you don’t have a reservation already, you may be out of luck. I spent many a Valentine’s Day waiting tables and working as a server and people seriously go bananas when it comes to booking Valentine’s Day in advance. But don’t fret if you’re out of luck at the trendy dinner spot in town, how about having some fun with the evening instead? Get dressed up and hit a diner or more casual spot – it’ll be even more memorable and you’ll get a great story and photos out of it (think you and your sweetheart looking fancy with a plate of fries and a shake. Classic!)

Or, maybe if you’re feeling a more low-key Valentine’s Day, how about a movie night at home? You can easily make the night feel special with an assortment of movie theatre favorite snacks and candies, a few candles and an extra cozy pile of blankets & pillows on the couch. But best of all, this Valentine’s Day celebration calls for comfy clothes, which means you’ll be trading in your heels for some slippers, and if you live in a cold climate, you won’t have to worry about freezing your butt off in a dress! Ideal.

But you know what the best part about Valentine’s Day falling on a Saturday is? Brunch. More specifically, starting the day off with those special ladies in your life with a little Gal-entines Day brunch. Mimosas, anyone? Brunch with the girls is the perfect excuse to go all out with sequins and hearts in various shades of pink and red. Bonus points for a festive bold lipstick!
